Frequently asked questions.

Who should mold test?

Mold inspections and air sampling are an important step in fostering a healthy home environment. Studies show that the average American spends approximately 90% of their time indoors, and that 50-65% of US Homes contain mold at levels that are considered to be a problem. We recommend mold testing whenever purchasing a new building and especially if you have a suspicion of excessive mold growth. If you have already found mold and are preparing for mold remediation, we recommend air testing before, a few days post remediation and 6 months post remediation to ensure the area has been meticulously remediated.

What symptoms can mold exposure cause?

Health issues related to mold exposure can vary greatly; coughing, dry or itchy skin, nose or throat congestion, difficulty breathing, eye irritation and blurred vision are some of the physiological responses the body experiences when exposed to mycotoxins. First, if you are experiencing any health issues, we recommend seeing a medical doctor as soon as possible. Although, it can sometimes prove difficult to trace the origin of these sometimes generalized symptoms, there is a variety of mold medical specialist available in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane.  Homes with water leaks past or present, signs of water damage, visible mold or unexplained medical symptoms are all indicators that you may be due for mold testing.

Where and how does mold grow?

Mold is all around us, an astonishing estimated 25% of the Earth’s biomass is mold/fungi. Spores spread through the air, enters our home and settles on surfaces. However, to keep growing indoors, the spores need a specific environment. A common practice is that if we can control the moisture we can control mold. Unwanted growth is most common in areas that have had moisture intrusion or leaks.

How fast will I receive my testing results?

We strive to provide the fastest possible service we can, turnaround times on Inspections will typically be same or next day. Full reports on air and direct sampling take 3-5 business days.

What steps to take prior to air sampling?

Air sampling using sensitive instruments provide a “snapshot” of your air quality at the time of testing. To ensure the most accurate results possible we strictly adhere to our pre sampling instruction checklist that we will provide and explain prior to booking your appointment.

How do I improve my indoor air quality?

As previously stated, controlling moisture and humidity in your space is critical to preventing mold growth and each of our services can provide you with those measurements. Ensuring good air flow in a space is a great way to decrease stagnant air. Quality HEPA rated air filters will decrease the amount of spores circulating indoors.

Do you only provide mold testing?

Currently yes, we have no plans to provide remediation services in the future. We believe that testing should be ethically done by an unbiased 3rd party. Our goal, is to give you an honest and accurate snapshot of your building’s condition and we are in no way incentivized to land a remediation contract. We will have other testing and disinfecting services available soon. Feel free to contact us with questions about any other indoor air quality services you feel you might need.
